I promised to write something for the Weymouth Arts Centre Orchestra and chose to compose a piece to celebrate the year of the British hosting of the Olympic Games. In particular Weymouth is to be the venue for the sailing, in Portland Harbour. The music might be to hard to perform without a number of 'stiffeners' but is something to rehearse at the very least. It is light in character, very 'English', and is dedicated the memory of Angela Nankivell, that inspirational teacher, Arts Centre orchestra director, performer & friend.
My friend David Ansell now runs the orchestra, on a shoestring budget, against many odds, with enormous devotion & enthusiasm, and with some help from playing friends (not least his wife Rachel who probably feels sometimes as if she IS the first violin section....). This is for him and for the enthusiastic members of the orchestra.
