Tanquam Sponsus - a plainsong 'romp' for Piano & Orchestra
This piece, written as an exercise when studying as a post graduate at Southampton my Doctorate. It is a subverted adaptation of the original Plainsong (which I cannot find - it was given out on a piece of manuscript) with a repeated rhythmic pattern: 3/4 - 3/8 - 5/8 - 3/8 - 2/4 - 5/8 - [5/8] which is repeated throughout the work. It creates a forward momentum, a playfully forceful push, with little 'trips' from time to time. It is, loosely, in the style of Bartok
I am intending to create a suite of four or maybe five movements for piano & orchestra called Symphonic Suite for Piano & Orchestra. This work will come after the two preceding works posted on this website [the first of which is a reworking of 'March Wind']. The nature of this combination of disparate works into a set is to emphasize the versatility of this medium.
