1 Allegro - 2 Andante mesto - 3 Scherzo - 4 Theme & Variations - 5 Allegro con fuoco
Composed for Duncan Honeybourne [and challenging even to his awesome technique], this work set out to be mono-thematic and in the romantic tradition of the late 19th & early 20th century, with perhaps a nod towards slightly more 'modern' harmony. The piano writing is prodigiously difficult, which is probably why the whole work has not yet been performed in full. I am hoping to record Duncan playing the complete sonata, in the summer (2020).
